When to dial 101
You can now dial 101 (avaiable 24 hours, 7 days a week) to talk to police about urgent issues. NOTE: It is NOT for emergencies - see When to Dial 999.
The system will determine your location and connect you to the police force covering Westhorpe. A recorded message will announce which police force you are being connected to (it will give you a choice if you are on a boundary between two or more forces). Police call handlers in the local force contact centre will then answer the call and respond appropriately. Use this service to report non-emergency crimes, disorder or anti-social behavior or speak to your local police officers, e.g.
- a vehicle has been stolen
- property has been damaged
- suspected drug use or dealing
- you want to give police information about crime in your area
- you would like to speak to a local police officer
When to dial 999
You should only dial 999 when life is threatened or people are injured, or if there is a crime in progress or an immeidate police response is necessary, i.e.
- life is in danger
- a serious offence is in progress
- a suspect is at a scene
- an alleged offender is identified at any location
- there is an imminent likelihood of violence/damage to a person's property
- there is a serious road traffice collision
